An Infant and Toddler Success Story
John and Debra* were the parents of a 28 month old son when Debra gave
birth to twin boys. The twins were
born 2 ˝ months prematurely and each weighed less than 4 lbs. at birth.
The babies remained in the neonatal intensive care unit for 6 weeks …
while there, one of the babies required emergency surgery to correct a
circulatory problem. Once the babies were discharged from the hospital, the family became involved with the Birth to Three Program. Debra was overwhelmed and uncertain about the babies’ needs. Program staff provided her with support, answers to her many questions, and techniques to aid her babies’ development.
Despite pediatricians’ concerns that the twins would have motor delays,
possible vision problems, respiratory problems and developmental delays, the
boys graduated from the Birth to Three Program at age 3, above age level in all
areas of development. Transitions’
services made a difference in their family’s life. Today, John and Debra
are enjoying their three healthy boys and are grateful for the services of the
Birth to Three Program. *This is an actual story of a Transitions' consumer. However, the name has been changed to protect the consumer's identity. |
