A School Success Story This past year, Jenny* graduated from
the Quincy School for the Handicapped (now known as Transitions School) - an accomplishment about which we
are very proud! Jenny was born with severe disabilities.
She is confined to a wheelchair, and like all children served at the
School,
she is severely mentally retarded. Without assistance she has never reached out
to catch a ball, colored a picture, or clapped her hands at the sound of a
moving musical tune. With the
assistance of School staff, however, she has done all of these things and more.
Jenny enrolled in Transitions School as a three year old and has attended the program
for the past eighteen years. Despite the fragility of her health, she has
enjoyed the physical stimulation, socialization and therapy provided at the
School.
Because of the School Jenny has been able to live at home with her family -
and enjoy their love and support. Transitions
School
has also provided respite and support to her parents.
These supportive services will continue to be offered to Jenny and her
family when she transitions into the agency's Extended Developmental
Training Program this fall.
*This is an actual story of a Transitions' student. However, the name has been changed to protect the student's identity. |
