A Vocational Training Success Story
* came to
Transitions CRC in early 2003. He
had not worked for more than 15 years, due to depression and anxiety.
Because he had not worked in many years, he was understandably
apprehensive about employment.
Steven continued with mental health treatment services at
Transitions while involved at CRC. Initially
he attended CRC on a part-time basis, receiving a work habits evaluation and
employee development services. Through
his participation in paid training opportunities, case management services, and
independent living skills training, Steven’s confidence in his abilities grew.
Steven’s schedule at CRC increased, as did his physical stamina.
He expressed an interest in community employment and began working with
CRC placement staff to secure a job in the community.
Steven learned
janitorial skills while working in CRC’s janitorial training program.
This enabled him to obtain a janitorial job in the community, which he
maintains today. Steven accomplished
a goal that he thought he might never achieve – employment!
Now he wants to move from a boarding home, where he has resided for
years, and obtain his own apartment. Thanks
to Transitions vocational services and behavioral health services, Steven is
achieving goals that once looked unreachable!
